Jamaican Hostel Will Give You a Free Joint In Exchange For Collecting One Bucket of Trash
Believe it or not, it’s possible to get high and save the world. All you have to do is travel to Jamaica and stay at the German hostel Germaican. In exchange for collecting a bucket of trash from the beach, the hostel will reward you with a fat joint.
International High Life reports that in early July, a post by the hostel went viral. It advertised giving away free joints in exchange for buckets of garbage. As you might imagine, pot-lovers were quick to take up the offer.
The gift-giving experience was proposed by Marian Erbach. Reportedly, the 33-year-old German native, who now lives in Jamaica, became “totally upset” with all of the garbage — especially plastic. So, he conjured the plan to trade joints for buckets of trash.

After broadcasting the idea, Erbach rolled 56 grams of weed into 56 joints. He didn’t dare roll any more because under Jamaican law, 56 grams is the maximum amount of marijuana a person is legally allowed to carry without being arrested. At most, one might receive a negligible fine.

Surprising to no one, the plan has worked like a charm. Cannabis lovers have flocked to the hostel to pick up trash and receive free weed. Most importantly, nearby beaches are much cleaner.
As EcoWatch reports, over 80 percent of the trash that is tossed into landfills ends up in the oceans. And, much of that rubbish either washes ashore or congregates in giant garbage patches, such as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. If left uncollected, it will break down into micro-particles and harm wildlife, as well as leach toxins into the environment.
