Cannabis for Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s
By Susan Boskey
Yes, there really are U.S. doctors that specialize in cannabis, but not more than you could count on two hands. These informed MDs who help patients with how to use cannabis are truly inspirational to those of us who are lay practitioners. They provide credibility and a rock-solid foundation for the efficacy of the medicinal use of cannabis. They are also the thought leaders who keep us updated about scientific breakthroughs and new evidence supporting human consumption.
Dr. Ethan Russo, a board-certified neurologist, psychopharmacology researcher, and former Senior Medical Advisor to GW Pharmaceuticals is one such standout. His research has seriously impacted the acceptance for cannabis’ legitimate use for a range of physical and mental health conditions, worldwide.

One of Dr. Russo’s landmark discoveries was about how our body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) can become deficient, thereby benefiting by a boost from cannabinoid molecules from cannabis: the perfect biochemical molecular match to the molecules that our bodies make. He called it, Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency (CECD).
In this interview, Dr. Russo discusses how cannabis greatly impacts the nervous system and, specifically, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. We are just at the beginning of cracking the code of the ECS and its role in modulating mostly all other physiological systems of the body.

As more research becomes available, I believe cannabis will move to the head of the line as what is administered first to remedy many different disease processes since it is non-toxic with little to no side effects when used medicinally.
