“Amazon” John Easterling was interviewed by TeriAnne Trevenen, the CEO of the Organixx supplement company, in two of its podcasts called Preventing Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

The Organixx summary for Part 1 in Episode 27 points out:
The issues with Alzheimer’s and dementia, when you look at the statistics, it is really shocking. It is startling. The incidence of death from heart disease in the last 15 years has actually declined by about 11%. The deaths due to Alzheimer’s have increased 123%.
People over 65, one in 10 have Alzheimer’s dementia. Deaths of people over 65 years old, one out of three of those deaths will be due to Alzheimer’s. Actually, more people are dying of Alzheimer’s than prostate cancer and breast cancer combined. And the cost is $270 billion now. It’s expected to go to 1.4 trillion over the next few years.
The Centers of Disease Control said that this could break the entire health system.
John Easterling: Evolution of a Treasure Hunter
John grew up in South Carolina and has a degree in Environmental Studies. Since 1976, he has been an explorer and treasure hunter in the Amazon Rainforest. It was there, after a personal health crisis, that he was introduced to the traditional use of medicinal plants by indigenous peoples in Peru. Since then, John’s passion for plant medicine has accelerated. He founded the Amazon Herb Company in 1990 and serves on the board of the Amazon Center of Environmental Education and Research.
“Amazon” John’s years of plant medicine experience has been profiled on TV and radio including “Good Morning America” and “Fox and Friends”. His product formulations have sold over $100 million worldwide. John has been featured in two PBS documentaries: the World News Report “Amazon John and Rainforest Medicines” and Jean Michel Cousteau’s “Return to the Amazon.” John believes the dramatic growth and interest in plant medicine is still in its early stages and will continue to significantly improve life experiences and healthy outcomes into the future.
Healed With Botanicals
Inspired by a book he read as a child, John went to Ecuador and Peru with a passion for finding lost cities of gold, essentially as a treasure hunter. Later, he went to Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina and began dealing with gemstones as treasure.
When he went up the river in the Amazon rainforest to trade in blowguns, carved monkey bones, and a variety of tribal artifacts, he became very ill. The Peruvian Indians brewed a tea from local plants that not only improved his illness but allowed him to feel better than ever in his life. That ignited John’s passion for plant medicine. That is how the Amazon Herb Company was born which has helped people improve their health with plant medicine for 30 years.
Antibiotics – Candida – Mental Decline
John explains that when antibiotics wipe out the good bacteria in your gut, the Candida albicans fungus in the gut may get out of control and cause inflammation in various parts of your body – including the brain. He says that the sudden rise in Alzheimer’s may parallel the overuse of antibiotics.
Recent studies at prestigious universities like Johns Hopkins, Harvard, and Boston University suggest there’s a little-known threat to your memory — Candida albicans. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) states that “Invasive candidiasis is a common healthcare-associated infection.” In a landmark study at Johns Hopkins University, researchers found that candida yeast infections are more common in people with serious brain disorders. People who had the highest levels of candida overgrowth performed the worst on memory tests.
The gut-brain connection is reported in the article The gut’s link to Alzheimer’s: Scientists discover common human gut yeast CAN move up into the brain to cause dangerous inflammation.
Probiotics Help Protect The Brain
John points out the critical importance of taking a good probiotic whenever you take an antibiotic. In his article Change in Probiotic Recommendations, Dr. Mark Sircus explains that he always used to recommend Prescript-Assist which was widely viewed as the best probiotic until it was withdrawn last year because of sourcing issues. Dr. Sircus now recommends Enviromedica Terraflora SBO Probiotic + Prebiotic Supplement which is distributed by the same firm.
Probiotic foods like kimchi, kefir, and natto can also be very helpful. My article Why You Need Vitamins De-K2 Urgently! points out that Vitamin K2 helps protect against osteoporosis, tooth decay, heart attacks, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, and a host of other illnesses. It shows that the best source of Vitamin K2 is natto. New York Natto has natto in four flavors that are available on its website and on Amazon as well as in some healthfood stores. Rhapsody Natural Foods has two versions of natto. Although authors linked to in my article say natto tastes terrible, these brands are palatable – and can even taste pretty good with eggs or rice.
Organixx “Ageless Brain” Supplement
The Ageless Brain supplement John formulated for Organixx was introduced on May 2 of this year.
The Organixx site points out that we are in the midst of an epidemic as more and more people are suffering from cognitive decline. Now, 1 in 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer’s disease or some other form of dementia. Worse, researchers are now finding early signs in young adults in their 20s!
Since there is no known cure for Alzheimer’s, it’s important to see your doctor as early as possible if you think you’re experiencing any symptoms. However, there are steps you can take to help rejuvenate and re-energize your brain. In fact, a variety of plants and herbs support a sharper memory, clearer thinking, and even help protect your brain from foreign intruders and other potential threats. Anyone over the age of 50, and certainly 60, would be wise to take preventive measures to protect the brain especially since those steps can also help the whole body.
Many of the plants John discusses were “discovered” by the Ancient Incas — one of the most advanced people of their time. They were excellent engineers, building beautiful stone cities that still stand hundreds of years later despite multiple earthquakes. They designed an expansive network of roads, highways and even rope suspension bridges spanning 25 THOUSAND MILES to connect one city to another. They even invented freeze-dried foods — the food ASTRONAUTS take into space now!
The Inca also had access to the largest “natural pharmacy” in the world — the Amazon rainforest, home to around 80,000 species of plants. The Amazon has so much healing potential that more than 100 drug companies and government agencies are searching there for new solutions to today’s toughest medical problems. More than 120 drugs on the market today came from the Amazon.
A recent study found the Incas to be highly-skilled surgeons, performing skull surgeries far better than American doctors during the Civil War — almost 400 years later! They used plants and herbs found in the Amazon rainforest in conjunction with the surgeries. Incan shamans used the inner bark of the pau d’arco tree to treat nearly every condition imaginable. From snake bites and joint pain, to inflammation and infections. Now, Western science is realizing that pau d’arco could be a powerful weapon in the fight against cognitive decline.
Today, many Westerners are flocking to the Amazon to drink ayahuasca with shamans and to the Andes to study with Incan priests.
Organixx Podcast Episode 28
Organixx continued the interview with John in Episode 28. In this podcast, John explains the difference between using a drug (an “isolate”) which addresses one symptom and using a whole plant which works synergistically. Each chemistry in the plant helps modulate the expression of other chemistries in the plant in what is called the multi-faceted “Entourage Effect”.
For example, Una de Gato is a wonderful antioxidant, but is also an anti-inflammatory and provides immune support which is important in brain health. In addition, it has the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) which helps build new brain cells.
John explains why he chose the eight botanicals included in the “Ageless Brain” supplement. Cat’s Claw, not only has BDNF, but also has the anti-inflammatories and support for immune health. John discusses the healing effects of Camu Camu and Cinnamon. He explains that he initially planted Camu Camu for its extraordinary levels of Vitamin C, but later discovered that has a powerhouse profile that can do so much more. John says Bacopa has been shown in studies to reverse age-related brain plaques by 60%.
John explains that these eight botanicals work together in an “Entourage Effect” just like the chemicals in each of the plants. They make a powerful family that enhances memory and cognitive function which increases self-confidence and allows people to be more outgoing and social.
