Fixer Upper Couple Explains Why Their Kids Can’t Have Cell Phones
As far as adorable couples go – Chip and Joanna Gaines have made a meteoric rise in America’s collective heart. When they show TLC to overlooked houses on Fixer Upper, they show TLC to each other and the world goes “awwwww.” Seriously, even if you fancy yourself a cynical Grinch, try and watch that show without your heart swelling three times its size.
Whenever celebrities hold an endearing stronghold on hearts, it isn’t long before fans start wondering how do they do it all? How do they live? What’s their secret? And I’d still like to know myself. The couple lives on a 40-acre Texas farm and on top of being on the brink of releasing their first book – The Magnolia Story – doing the actual rehab work on their massively popular television show, they also run a magazine, retail store, design clothing lines and keep their four children as a number one priority.

So much so that they have withheld cell phones and the family doesn’t even own a television.
The couple started out broke, but none of the trappings of the “rich and famous” lifestyle seem to have penetrated their family life. In fact, a connection with animals and nature is very important to them.
Joanna told Entertainment Tonight:
I tell the kids that you are probably not going to get a cellphone.
We want to teach our kids that life happens outside of these devices. It’s just a simple thing to go outside and connect with nature, play with your friends and get dirty.
Electromagnetic frequencies such as those emitted from cell phones are joining the growing list of things that are more like the new “second-hand smoke.” EMF hypersensitivity is real. Cell phones are now known to be a danger to a child’s developing brain and cause cancer. They have lowered sperm counts, interrupted sleep patterns, can amplify your pain, and create headaches.

Joanna and Chip Gaines join the list of celebrities who openly eschew cell phone use for their children. Gwyneth Paltrow for instance, speaks out against cell phone and Wi-Fi dangers, and Carrie-Anne Moss who played Trinity on The Matrix series doesn’t want her children to think they are developing real connections through their devices. She sees cell phones as a metaphor for living in the Matrix.
