Foods to Avoid and the Acid Diet

by Paul A. Philips

The body’s blood pH is between 7.35 and 7.45. The body has homeostatic regulatory mechanisms to keep it within this range or otherwise death would result. Food when eaten and absorbed can influence the body’s blood pH and affect health. Healthy foods are called alkaline foods because when absorbed they produce a pH towards 7.45. Conversely unhealthy foods are acid foods which produce a pH towards the lower 7.35 end.

In other words, frequent or heavy long-term consumption of acid foods may lead to illness and ultimately death.

Illnesses include:

Overweight, diabetes, immune deficiency, kidney & bladder problems, fatigue, premature aging, osteoporosis, aching joints, aching muscles, heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes, parasitic infection, digestive disorders, mood swings, difficulties in concentrating…

Indeed this begs the question: what are those acid foods?

Generally, the acids foods to be careful of are:

Meats, fatty foods, dairy products, factory-processed foods, sweets … sugar-laden drinks such as soda pop … If foods are overheated or frozen then the vitamin and enzyme content will be spoiled, causing the nutrition value to be greatly reduced.

Remember that this is not an exhaustive account but here’s a more detailed list:

Meats

Beef, pork and pork-based products, lamb, mutton, chicken, turkey and pheasant … Crab, shrimps, prawns, lobsters…i.e. crustaceans. Sardines, cod, haddock and salmon.

Dairy foods

Cheese, cream, butter, milk and milk-based drinks, eggs, yogurt and ice-cream.

Miscellaneous

Spaghetti, macaroni… i.e. all types of pasta, white bread, wholemeal bread, bran oat, bran wheat, wheat germ, blueberries, honey, oatmeal, peanut butter, peanuts, pistachio nuts rice (brown and white), plums and prunes.

From the convenience store

All refined sugar products. Microwavable, readymade or instant meals. Beware of the cans of, tins of, packets of… foods with those mysterious E -numbers, preservatives, chemicals, over saltiness… Dehydrated (powdered) soups, fast foods, soy sauce, cooking fats and oils, trans-fats and hydrogenated oils. Sunflower oil, corn oil and margarine… Canned drinks, fizzy drinks and artificially sweetened drinks…

Some foods are neutral, but have the effect of acidifying … are corn oil, sugar and high fructose corn syrup.

The solution

The pathway to good health, the 80%/20% alkaline/acid balance doesn’t have to be a complicated affair. If you get a fair share of salads, selected fruits and nuts with raw vegetables, preferably of the organic kind and good healthy oils, then you are well on your way to achieving the favorable balance. Always drink plenty of good clean water.

If you are not alkaline balanced, then I strongly recommend you take the stand and make those simple changes to make the switch.

Just see how much more alive you’ll feel!
