David Carpenter, Environmental Scientist; EMFs, RF Bioeffects at Non-Thermal Levels
Electromagnetic Health.org provided the following quote from David Carpenter, Professor, Environmental Health Sciences; and Director, Institute for Health and the Environment, School of Public Health, University of Albany, SUNY; and Co-Editor, The BioInitiative Report (www.BioInitiative.org)
“The fields associated with electricity are commonly called “extremely low frequency” fields (ELF), while those used in communication and microwave ovens are called “radiofrequency” (RF) fields. Studies of people have shown that both ELF and RF exposures result in an increased risk of cancer, and that this occurs at intensities that are too low to cause tissue heating. Unfortunately, all of our exposure standards are based on the false assumption that there are no hazardous effects at intensities that do not cause tissue heating. Based on the existing science, many public health experts believe it is possible we will face an epidemic of cancers in the future resulting from uncontrolled use of cell phones and increased population exposure to WiFi and other wireless devices. Thus it is important that all of us, and especially children, restrict our use of cell phones, limit exposure to background levels of Wi-Fi, and that government and industry discover ways in which to allow use of wireless devices without such elevated risk of serious disease. We need to educate decision-makers that ‘business as usual’ is unacceptable. The importance of this public health issue cannot be underestimated.”
Dr. David Carpenter received his M.D. from Harvard in 1964 and is a Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the University at Albany, SUNY, where he is the Director of the Institute for Health and the Environment. He is the co-editor-in-chief of the academic journal Reviews on Environmental Health; and co-editor-in-chief of the journal Environmental Pollution.

Dr. Carpenter has authored more than 370 peer-reviewed publications and six books. His research has included studies on adverse effects of hydraulic fracturing, farmed salmon, and electromagnetic fields, and he has said that “up to 15 percent” of cases of childhood cancer might be caused by exposure to magnetic fields from power lines.
During the past decade or two, he has been continually sought out by filmmakers, journalists and the press for his knowledge in the field of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) and its health effects. He was the first scientist bold enough to agree to an interview with Time Magazine online about persons damaged by man-made EMR that have become impaired and “electrosensitive.” This was, and is, often a subject for ridicule, as reported by The New York Times in 2014 in, the “Debate Continues on Hazards of Electromagnetic Waves”. This is despite a long history of recognition of microwave illnesses and adverse effects in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, as well as countries such as Sweden.
David Carpenter, What Is 5G And What Do We Know About The Health Effect Of 5G?
David O. Carpenter, Director of the Institute for Health and the Environment at the University at Albany, stated,
“The health endpoints that have been reported to be associated with ELF and/or RF include childhood leukemia, adult brain tumors, childhood brain tumors, genotoxic effects (DNA damage and micronucleation), neurological effects and neurodegenerative disease, immune system dysregulation, allergic and inflammatory responses, breast cancer in men and women, miscarriage and some cardiovascular effects… Given the scientific evidence at hand, the rapid deployment of new wireless technologies that chronically expose people to pulsed RF at levels reported to cause bioeffects, which in turn, could reasonably be presumed to lead to serious health impacts, is a public health concern. A public health action level that implements preventative action now is warranted, based on the collective evidence… It is not unreasonable to question the safety of RF at any level.”
Leif Salford, Neurosurgeon; Blood Brain Barrier Damage
Dr. Leif Salford is the Chairman of Neurosurgery at Lund University Hospital in Sweden. Since 1988 he has led a team of researchers that have exposed thousands of laboratory rats to microwave radiation from various sources. Since the late 1990s they have used mobile telephones as the source of this radiation. Consistent and alarming effects have been found: not only does radiation from a cell phone damage the blood-brain barrier, but it does so even when the exposure level is reduced a thousand-fold; and contrary to what was expected, the damage to the blood-brain barrier worsened when the experimenters reduced the exposure level. This has implications for the specific absorption rate (SAR) classifications used for testing cell phones safety; it means that that reducing their power still does not make them safe.
Dr. Salford’s team has shown that blood-brain barrier leakage occurs after only two minutes of exposure, in laboratory rats. Further, a single two-hour exposure to a cell phone, even at reduced power, was shown to damage or destroy up to two percent of an animal’s brain cells.
Dr. Salford’s laboratory has performed many experiments showing damage, including memory impairment in long term exposure of rats to a cell phone; a single six-hour exposure at extremely low power levels caused genetic damage. Exposure to the low-frequency magnetic fields (that cell phones also emit along with the usual microwave/radio wave frequencies) caused disturbances of calcium transport in cells. Dr. Salford has called the potential implications of his laboratory results “terrifying,” and the use of cell phones by human beings “the largest biological experiment ever.” He has also stated that the weakest exposure levels to wireless radiation caused the greatest effect in causing the blood brain barrier to leak. He had written over well over 300 publications according to research gate several years ago and many more since.

Lennart Hardell, Oncologist, Scientist; Epidemiology, Cancer
Dr. Lennart Hardell, Swedish oncologist and professor at Örebro University Hospital in Örebro, Sweden, is known for his research into environmental cancer-causing agents, such as Agent Orange and other toxic chemicals. He has also engaged in extensive research showing that cell phones used over time, increase the risk of brain tumors, particularly acoustic neuroma, and glioma.
Studies by the Hardell group have consistently shown increasingly significant risks for brain tumor development associated with wireless phones. His findings, along with other studies, including the international INTERPHONE study on mobile phones and health, contributed to the verdict by WHO and IARC in 2011, that radio frequency exposure be deemed as “possibly” carcinogenic (group 2B).
Lennart Hardell, Dr. Anthony Miller of the WHO, along with others, have recommended that the WHO and IARC classification should be designated with a more serious group 1 classification since many scientific studies, including the later completed National Toxicology Program (NTP) Study in the US have shown clear evidence of cancer.
He has stated that the animal study has confirmed the findings of the Hardell group’s epidemiological studies of increased risk for glioma and acoustic neuroma among people that use wireless phones, both cell phones and cordless DECT phones. Acoustic neuroma is a type of Schwannoma; therefore, this study has confirmed findings in humans of increased risk for glioma and acoustic neuroma. In 2013 (prior to the NTP Study) Lennart Hardell and his group had called for upgrading the risk in humans to Group 1, meaning the agent is carcinogenic. After the results of the NTP study came out a few years later, Hardell stated the following: Lennart Hardell, MD, PhD of Orebro University says, “(T)he animal study confirms our findings in epidemiological studies of an increased risk for glioma and acoustic neuroma among people that use wireless phones, both cell phones and cordless phones (DECT). Acoustic neuroma is a type of Schwannoma, so interestingly this study confirms findings in humans of increased risk for glioma and acoustic neuroma. In 2013 we called for upgrading the risk in humans to Group 1, the agent is carcinogenic to humans. It is now time to re-evaluate both the cancer risk and other potential health effects in humans from radiofrequency radiation and also inform the public.” says Hardell. “This NTP evidence is greatly strengthening the evidence of risk, is sufficient to reclassify cell phone radiation as a known cancer-causing agent, and confirms the inadequacy of existing public safety limits.”
The findings of the NTP study were also reinforced by the results of the Ramazzini study.
Lennart Hardell has also been addressing the conflicts of interest and misrepresentation of the science by ICNIRP, the International Commission on Non-ionizing Radiation Protection, (which has rightly been referred to as a commission on non-ionizing radiation industry protection.)

History has shown time and again that when exposure to a substance which is harmful to humans and nature reaches a certain threshold of cumulative effects, the pendulum of awareness, like the Earth in her seasonal cycles, swings back. And what seemed impossible suddenly becomes achievable.
