Not So Truthful Ads From Yesteryear: A Review of Merchandising Hype
Truth in advertising! What’s that? Something that apparently was disregarded in the not-too-distant past, which led gullible consumers to believe and to accept the hype about products which today are banned or no longer viewed in the same fashion as before.
Take particular notice of the advertisement directly below which bragged it was the smooth tasting cigarette expectant mothers craved. Holy smokes! Have things change. But we also can remember that Camel cigarettes were the ones most doctors preferred and smoked!

This ad certainly must have been an exaggeration, as today there are prescription drug ads to increase penis size, since something happened to males that they “can’t get it up” anymore!

Vaseline is made from petroleum and called petroleum jelly.

All the above advertisements go back in time when, apparently, there were no advertising regulations; thus the various regulatory agencies came into being. However, some things seemingly never change, especially when vested interests pay their way to get consensus opinions and pseudoscience marketed and mainstreamed as ‘science’ as the microwave, pharmaceutical and vaccine industries are prone to do today.
