Duke Energy Customers’ Smart Meter Problems And Complaints – Do You Have Any Meter Complaints?
AMI meters and smart meters are one and the same meter! Don’t let any utility company employee or sub-contractor tell you differently, as some have been doing in various states. That’s a ‘deflective’ definition hoping customers will abandon their dislikes or complaints about smart meters after hearing another name for them, and they will accept them. Oh, the tricks they play!
Duke Energy customers in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana are not very happy with how they are being treated regarding the forcing of AMI Smart Meters on to their properties and have launched an all-out, push-back to enforce their rights to privacy and preserving their health, since AMI SMs pump out health-damaging non-thermal radiation waves like crazy—can be up to 190,000 times in 24 hours!
As a result of customer backlash in Ohio, Duke Energy customers now enjoy an “opt-out” from AMI Smart Meters, something that is in keeping with rights preserved under the U.S. and states Constitutions while solidifying basic human rights, but those rights cost $24 extra a MONTH for the opt-out, per an email I received from another Ohioan while writing this article.

Personally, I wonder when utility customers will wake up to the fact they are being assaulted by AMI Smart Meters microwave non-thermal radiation waves and start filing legal charges against all utilities forcing customers to take them, or lose their utility, thereby experiencing forced DNA damage and other health problems known as electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS).
It is my opinion customers can add harassment too! How about your also tacking on invasion of privacy charges! Your PERSONAL information is collected without a duly issued warrant, plus your data are being SOLD (monetized) to unknown third parties without your knowledge or consent. One of the customer issues in Ohio and Kentucky regarding AMI SMs was “astronomical utility bills.” Some customer bills were five times higher than they should have been! Note, that’s a familiar occurrence for many AMI SM customers everywhere in the country. See this article for more information about excessive meter billings as reported by WCPO in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A March 2017 study by the University of Twente in Holland divulged the fact AMI Smart Meters overbill customers sometimes 582% higher [1] than the actual energy consumption in Dutch customers’ homes. I wrote about an article about that study. Since my article has received 57 thousand posts to Facebook, one would assume overbilling is a priority and hot button item with consumers.
However, overbilling charges resulting from retrofitted AMI SMs are something state utility commissions are very lax to investigate. I wonder why! I heartily suggest consumers file formal complaints with their respective state’s Public Utility Commission office and the Attorney General’s office of Consumer Protection, plus provide photocopy proof, e.g., former meter billings versus current AMI SM bills.
Are customers aware a portion of each billing can represent customers being charged for the cost of the smart meter pro-rated on each monthly bill? The meter cost is around $300. Are you aware you are paying for that smart meter you probably didn’t even know was retrofitted on to your utility service(s)? If your utility company amortizes the cost of the meter over 5 years, that would add $5 extra to each bill. ($300 divided by 5 = $60 divided by 12 months = $5/month) How much does that cost a consumer who has electric, natural gas and water AMI Smart Meters on their home?
Furthermore, the smart meter is built and/or programmed to last only 5 to 6 years. Customers will be billed for a replacement again, then onward until you no longer own the property. How many analog meters have you paid for? Rip-off time in utility land?
While writing this article, I received an email from a PECO customer in SE Pennsylvania stating PECO now is sending what appears to be an estimated bill. How can that be, when the photograph provided with the email looks like it’s an AMI Smart Meter or an AMR meter! Shouldn’t those billings be exact consumption? Or, are smart meters malfunctioning in more ways than we know?
Oh, the games individual utilities and public utility commissions play!
