Emotional Patterns Behind Skin Cancer
This is Part 2 in a two-part skin cancer series. In part one, Scott wrote that “The Sun Is Not Causing Your Skin Cancer” and referenced this Huffington Post article.
What drives someone emotionally/internally to get such excessive amounts of tanning or sun exposure that leads to skin cancer? The woman in our article points to excess amount of tanning and sun exposure and to avoiding them and using sunscreen as the answer and warning us about it. As mentioned in the last article the sun is most likely not the real reason most people get skin cancer. Our physical lifestyles in the USA are abysmal and set up optimal conditions for cancer in the body. But our emotional world is proving to be even more powerful than the physical world in our lives.

The most cutting edge medicine in the world today is pointing towards the mind as being infinitely times more powerful at creating disease than most physical factors. When we look within emotionally and to what is inside our consciousness (emotions, thoughts and belief systems) we often see clearly the patterns that have literally created cancer inside of us. This is not meant to blame or shame people at all, but instead to look at the internally reality that creates our outside world. The body simply projects on the outside of us physically what we are holding onto within our consciousness/mind.
THE EMOTIONAL COST OF BEAUTY
I would never hint at judging the woman that has courageously shared her story and the harsh reality of her treatment with the world. I think it is courageous. However, why the need for the tanning in the first place? Why the need to be tan at all? What feeds this emotional need?
The skin just like every other part of the body has its own consciousness. Every health problem or disease has its own consciousness as well. These internal factors may set up the optimal external environment to support skin cancer.
THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE SKIN
The skin has to do with these main aspects within consciousness (borrowed from Body Talk):
- Protection
- Breathing in life
- Self-Acceptance
- Self-Image
- Guilt
- Sensuality
- Sensitivity (thick/thin skinned)
Inna Segal, a very gifted healer, in talking about the consciousness of the skin, mentions these possible main contributing ideas:
Failure to protect or be protected. Feeling irritated, angry, frustrated—like someone or something is getting under your skin. Disapproval, criticism, invalidation, or even hatred of self. Timid, withdrawn, insecure; feeling second best, devalued, uncomfortable in your own skin. Feeling like you don’t belong and putting up barriers to guard yourself.(p. 81, The Secret Language of Your Body)
Based upon these ideas above let’s ask the following questions to dig into why we may have skin cancer:
- How were you not protected physically, emotionally, mentally, financially or relationally when you were growing up or even now? Was there one or more people in your life that failed to protect you?
- Who did you fail to protect in your past? Who didn’t you protect that you blame yourself now for and feel guilty about?
- Are you frequently irritated, angry or frustrated by things or people in your life? Who or what gets under your skin the most?
- Do you disapprove of yourself in any way or have done so in the past? If so, how?
- Do you criticism yourself for anything now or in the past? If so, how?
- Do you invalidate yourself or even have hatred for yourself or for your body? Do you think you are not handsome, good-looking or pretty enough? Did someone call you fat or ugly or mock a part of your body when you were younger? Do you feel ugly or not pretty/handsome now?
- Are you timid?
- Do you often times withdraw from life?
- Do you feel insecure about yourself, especially parts of your body people can see? What memories in your past growing up involve negative things involving your body?
- Do you feel second best or devalued or not comfortable in your own skin?
- Do you feel like you don’t belong?
- Were you involved in very painful memories in the past and subconsciously erected walls in order to “protect” yourself?
- In what ways do you not accept yourself or your body?
- What in your life do you feel the most guilty about?
- Have people often called you “too sensitive”?
- Towards whom or what are you the most resentment in your life?
When we see something manifest on our skin, it can be a wakeup call many times to ask “why?” we have gotten this problem. The most important answer to this question is often times the thing we pay least attention too. Many times the problem points us to very unhealthy emotional patterns and memories we have within us that are not healed and still are wounding us after all these years. One of the main purposes as to why we get health problems that manifest physically is because they beg us to look at our internal negative emotional reality. These problems help use to grow, so that we can love the parts of us and the memories from the past that may be still hurting us in a profound way.
Again, this is not about blaming ourselves for our health problem. Far from it. Blame will not help us to heal. Love and forgiving ourself is the pathway to healing. Taking responsibility for our internally emotional reality and letting go of the painful emotions that are literally bubbling to the surface are the pathway to lasting physical healing. The mind is so powerful and the mind literally creates our external reality. Clinically, we use Body Talk, Psychokinesiology, and other modalities to help release this toxic emotionally energy so we can heal. The best thing is that sessions can even be done at a distance over the phone or Skype.
Think long and hard about how much your past and the unresolved hurtful memories, emotions and thoughts that exist within and are contributing to the current health problem you have.
Are you ready to heal from the negative emotional memories that may be the main cause that is fueling the skin cancer you have? Together with a healthy physical lifestyle and working on our inner reality, we have the best chance at reversing and healing from skin cancer…naturally.
