American Kratom Association Announces Industry Standards To Protect Kratom Consumers
Las Vegas, Nevada – July 18, 2018 – With many of the largest kratom vendors in attendance at the Champs Trade Show in Las Vegas, the American Kratom Association (AKA) reaffirmed its commitment to providing consumers with safe kratom products, by announcing the AKA Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Standards.
Dave Herman, Chairman of the AKA, told the vendors at the Champs Trade Show that “these strict baseline recommendations for GMP Standards for the manufacturing and distribution of kratom products are essential in protecting the safety of consumers, and will send the clear message to the FDA and federal and state legislators that we are committed to removing adulterated or contaminated kratom products from the marketplace, and we will not allow impermissible health claims to be made by any credible kratom vendor.”

The AKA has been the leader in advocating for a supply chain of kratom products that protects consumers, and demonstrates its commitment to supporting the FDA in fulfilling its mission to seize and destroy any adulterated or contaminated kratom products, and to shut down the operations of unscrupulous vendors who fail to adhere to these standards.
These recommended standards will help govern the operations and conduct of kratom vendors and outline all aspects of business conduct as it relates to the safety and quality of material being provided by kratom producers and resellers.
Herman continued by saying, “The mission of the AKA is to protect the consumers and to provide confidence in the products they are purchasing. We have listened to the kratom vendors who have wanted more structure for industry standards and are now ready to move forward with stricter industry self-regulation. Our recommendation is that vendors immediately adopt and follow these standards.”

In an effort to increase consumer safety and restore consumer confidence in the supply chain of kratom products, the AKA also announced the creation of the AKA GMP Certification Program that will help identify kratom manufacturers and vendors who follow GMP standards and agree to 3rd-party verification.
The AKA will be announcing a series of training seminars for interested kratom vendors regarding the implementation of the certification program.
