The Very REAL PROBLEMS And CONCERNS Regarding AMI Smart Meters
On March 7, 2017, State Senator Patrick Colbeck (R-Canton), Michigan, testified before the Michigan State House Energy and Technology Committee regarding House Bill 4220 and Smart Meters.
As an aerospace engineer and former employee of the Department of Defense, Sen Colbeck came forward to ask questions and make statements, I think, all policy makers everywhere, especially at federal levels, should be presenting regarding Smart Meters and the Grid.
Sen Colbeck feels Smart Meters are “putting our homes, our nation and, frankly, some of the power suppliers at risk.” Why others can’t or won’t see that never seems to amaze me.
Smart Meters connect every home to a digital network; take personal information from homes and send signals to shut off power. The KEY thing is availability of power. System reliability is at risk and put at risk with smart meters; a risk that is not entertained in any manner with analog meters. Basically, we are asking for the grid to be taken down using smart meter technology, whereas analog meters are much safer in all respects, including built-ins preventing fire hazards, as Sen Colbeck testified. How stupid are we in looking for – and even inviting – the grid to be taken down?

Smart Meters have an infrared light that flashes – indicating and tells – when someone is at home using power, which apparently operates as a ‘house available for break-in’ electronic signal!
Sen Colbeck said legislators in Michigan should at least give consumers a choice as whether to adopt Smart Meters, something forcefully being denied consumers everywhere, and definitely not the “American Way,” or what used to be the American Way!
Consumers will be paying for all those extra costs associated with Smart Meters in trying to build in security, which still will be elusive due to the fact that Smart Meters operate on microwave technology and networks, I say.
Whereas, those extra costs are not needed with the security-safe analog meters utilities have been using for decades. However, analog meters will not allow Big Brother to tap into every smart appliance in your house or to shut off power to your home, if Big Brother thinks you are using too much power, natural gas or water, even though you are willing to pay for your usage. Basically, it’s control, corporate control, and more ‘government-corporate-triage’ control at every level of life. When will Americans wake up to that reality? Smart technology will ruin your life in more ways than you can imagine now, while ‘enjoying’ your texting every so many seconds to tell everyone something no one give a tinker’s dam about.
Every state and the U.S. Congress, in particular, should have a Sen Colbeck or two, who would speak as knowledgeably before committee hearings about the numerous problems being forced upon utility consumers by mandatory imposition of Smart Meters in the USA.

However, and more regrettably, Sen Colbeck forgot to mention non-thermal radiation adverse health effects, which are the most important risks regarding AMI Smart Meters. What a shame!
