Designer Suzanne Lee shares her experiments in growing a kombucha-based material that can be used like fabric or vegetable leather to make clothing. Kombucha is a probiotic, fermented drink made from black tea and sugar. Kombucha is good for parasites and all sorts of other things. Lee is working with theese microbes to quite literally grow clothing.
Who knew?
The process is fascinating, the results are beautiful (though there’s still one minor drawback …) and the potential is simply stunning. More pictures below.
